Week 10: Print Advertisement Analysis: Activity:

Ad One:
1. What audience is the advertisement trying to appeal to?
The audience is mature adults. On the ad is aimed at males but it could be for females as well.
2. How is the product positioned in the Ad? Does the company use a photographic image of the product?
The product is centered, taking up most of the page. Product name and slogan around it. The image is photographed. It is a simple, clear photo.
3. How is the taste and texture of the product communicated?
The layers of the burger are all showing in great detail.
4. How do the headline and tagline of the advert help to draw in the viewer?
'For the discerning bloke'. 'It's a little bit fancy'. The headlines draw the audience in by appealing to the older generation. It is something that is not like the other products that McDonalds serves.
5. In your opinion is the advertisement effective?
The advertisement is effective as it is eye catching and is simple. Take one look at the ad and you know straight away where it is from.

Ad Two:
1. What audience is the advertisement trying to appeal to?
This ad is appealing to adults, families and couples.
2. How is the product positioned in the Ad? Does the company use a photographic image of the product?
The product is centered, with the brand name in the right bottom corner and an explanation of what the product can offer the audience if they eat it. The product is photographed. Simple but effective.
3. How is the taste and texture of the product communicated?
The product is positioned as if it were presented in a restaurant. The audience can achieve this same meal at home.
4. How do the headline and tagline of the advert help to draw in the viewer?
There is no real headline because the product speaks for itself. There is only a little explanation of the product down the bottom of the page.
5. In your opinion is the advertisement effective?
This advertisement is effective as it gives a clear resemblance of the product. It looks appealing to the eye.

Week 7: Packaging Design: Activity:

Arnott's Hundreds and Thousands:

1. What symbols/colour has the company used to persuade their target audience (children or Adults)?
Arnott's has used their logo, a cartoon fairy figure, stars and coloured balls to attract their target audience, which is children. The colours used are blue, pink, yellow, green and purple.
2. What sort of message do you think the colours are trying to convey? Do the colours the company has used for the packaging indicate taste/flavour?
The message through the colours are happy and playful. The packaging does not really indicate taste/flavour, although there are hundreds and thousands on the packaging. The colour pink is a calm, relaxing colour that Arnott's have used for the biscuit.
3. What style of typography has the company used (serif/san serif/italic/bold) and what does this say about the brand?
The typography is a sans serif font with pink and a purple outline. It is bright and large and appeals to children as it specifically coloured. Arnott's is placed directly above the name which makes people realise that it is a trusted brand.
4. What materials/construction has company used to package the biscuits? In your opinion is the packaging functional?
Arnott's has used a plastic packaging with a plastic tray inside. The pull out tray is usable as it can be placed back inside the packaging but the actual packaging can not be reused. Arnott's recommend that the biscuits be placed in an a dry place, in a light proof container. The size is functionable and fits nicely on the shelf.
5. In your opinion is the packaging eco-friendly and/or sustainable? Why/why not?
The packaging is not sustainable as it can not be recycled but the tray is sustainable as it can be recycled.


Unibic Shortbread Pure Butter Fingers:
1. What symbols/colour has the company used to persuade their target audience (children or Adults)?
Colours used are red, cream and gold. The symbols is a picture of shortbread biscuits in a box. Target auidence is adults as it is more mature than the hundred and thousands packaging. The logo is above the name and the picture is much larger.
2. What sort of message do you think the colours are trying to convey? Do the colours the company has used for the packaging indicate taste/flavour?
The message that the company/brand is expensive and simple. The biscuits are exactly the same on the packaging as what they look like inside. This may seem appealing to some people if they are familiar with the taste and brand.
3. What style of typography has the company used (serif/san serif/italic/bold) and what does this say about the brand?
Sans serif had been used in capital letters. This font is strong, simple and clear and susgests that you know what to expect when buying the product.
4. What materials/construction has company used to package the biscuits? In your opinion is the packaging functional?
Packaging used is made out of a cardboard like material in a rectangle shape which is convenient for storage. It has a plastic tray inside, wrapped in more plastic. The biscuits can be easily opened and is accessible. It however, can not be resealed.
5. In your opinion is the packaging eco-friendly and/or sustainable? Why/why not?
The cardboard can be recycled along with the plastic. So much plastic may be seen as unneccessary and wastful.
